Business challenge: to enable the Firm’s newly promoted Senior Managers to drive business growth through positively influencing and motivating teams and peers.

Background

In an ever-increasing competitive landscape, getting the best people is not always easy. So when you know you have them - you want to keep them. One of the world’s largest accountancy firms recognised this and wanted to capitalise on the talent of its new era of Senior Managers.

The Firm asked OPP® to design and interactive and dynamic event for these new Senior Managers that would achieve the following objectives:

  • To engage them and celebrate their promotions
  • To clarify the Firm’s expectations of them and provide a consistent benchmark
  • To smooth the transition from technical manager to people manager
  • To help the managers understand how to drive business performance through effective management of their teams

Solution

OPP designed and ran a two-day off-site event for the Senior Managers. This helped them to understand how to create successful environments that would maximise their team’s performance. OPP used the MBTI® personality questionnaire to help the managers become more aware of their managerial style and how they could adapt it to motivate and engage their teams and peers. The managers were encouraged to draw on previous experiences in which they were particularly engaged and challenged and OPP helped them to consider the underlying factors that created these environments so that they could replicate the positive ones. Managers also participated in focussed sessions, in which they identified personal managerial ‘traps’ that they could fall into and how to avoid them.
